USPS Direct Mail Guide

Independent guide. Not affiliated with or endorsed by USPS.

About this guide

An independent, plain-English guide to the ways businesses send marketing mail through USPS. It is not a USPS website. We aren't affiliated with the United States Postal Service, and USPS hasn't reviewed or endorsed it.

Checked 2026-11-07

Why

The rules live in the Domestic Mail Manual and the prices in Notice 123. Both are thorough, and neither is written for a business owner deciding how to mail 3,000 postcards. This guide pulls out the parts that matter for that decision.

How we check

  • Prices come from USPS Notice 123. The current edition took effect October 4, 2026.
  • Rules come from the Domestic Mail Manual, mainly sections 233, 243, 604 and 703.
  • Promotions come from USPS's PostalPro promotions pages and the 2026 technical guide.
  • Every page shows its sources and the date we checked them.

No sales

We don't sell printing, mailing, lists or permits. No affiliate links.
